Visiting the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum

Nearly 30 million people have come here, a place that is both a memorial to the past and a reminder of our obligations to each other in today’s world. Here you can explore Holocaust history, remember the victims, and learn ways to confront hatred and to help prevent genocide. We encourage you to challenge your mind and to change our world.

Beginning September 1, 2008, passes will not be required to enter the Permanent Exhibition at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum during the fall and winter months. We are making this change to better align Museum operations with Washington, D.C.’s seasonal visitation patterns.

Year-round, no passes are required to enter the Museum or to visit our special exhibitions, and passes will now only be required for the Permanent Exhibition from March through August.

Groups Information

Groups of 40 or more people are required to schedule their visit, however, no reservations are needed for group visits to Remember the Children: Daniel's Story.


Nazi Olympics: Berlin 1936

This exhibition is available April 26 to August 24, 2008.

For two weeks in 1936, Adolf Hitler’s Nazi dictatorship camouflaged its racist, militaristic character while hosting the Summer Olympic Games. Having rejected a proposed boycott of the 1936 Olympics, the United States and other western democracies missed the opportunity to take a stand that — some observers at the time claimed — might have given Hitler pause and bolstered international resistance to Nazi tyranny.

Your group visit to Nazi Olympics: Berlin 1936, also includes A Dangerous Lie: The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, which explores the continuing impact of the most widely distributed antisemitic publication of modern times. Adjacent to the exhibition is the continuous presentation of a 14-minute film on antisemitism in Western Europe before World War II.

Permanent Exhibition: The Holocaust

This exhibition, available year round, offers a comprehensive historical narrative. Typically, visitors spend between one and three hours in the exhibition. It is recommended for ages 11 and above. Visitors move through the exhibition’s three floors, starting at the top: the opening floor, Nazi Assault – 1933 to 1939; the middle floor, The "Final Solution" – 1940 to 1945; and the final floor, Last Chapter.
